News - Charity-Picked

The Charity has been Picked!

Posted on January 16, 2012

After reading some comments on this project on Flickr I realized that some people felt it was weird there was no charity picked out yet. As I explained on this website this was due to a couple of reasons.

First, the book was the primal goal. Only I thought too late about what I was going to do with the money the book would bring when being sold. I thought a charity would fit there perfectly. As there are A LOT of charities out there I wanted one that would deal with the system so I thought of Oxfam Novib and Fair Trade. I started a poll to let other people vote and even suggest their own but not that many votes came in.

Seeing that the pressure of choosing one really started to hit me I have made a decision:
Fair Trade Organization

In the words of one of the founding Fair Trade Groups, their goal is to change “international, commercial relations in such a way that disadvantaged producers can increase their control over their future, have a fair and just return of their work, continuity of income and decent working and living conditions through sustainable development.”

Looking at the current crisis and its (broad) causes this seems like a good goal to me and I hope you agree!
